MARGAO: Holding banks responsible for the smooth functioning and regular maintenance of their ATMs, the South Goa consumer disputes redressal forum, while disposing of a complaint, directed the Zuarinagar branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) to pay a compensation of 25,000 to its customer who was unable to withdraw cash from the SBI ATM despite having sufficient funds in his account.
Suresh Raikar of Alto Dabolim, who owned an ATM/debit card issued by SBI, Zuarinagar branch, had lodged a complaint with the forum in August 2004, pointing out how he and his family were subjected to a lot of hardships on account of malfunctioning of the ATMs when on a visit to Belgaum.
