Bihar woman MLA beaten by husband
The incident took place on Wednesday and Purnia SP Nayyar Hasnain Khan said that he got a phone call from the MLA, alleging her husband had mercilessly beaten her. The victim had also named five people in connection with the case.

BIHAR CHIEF Minister Nitish Kumar may have got more votes from women and they may be behind his win in recent election in the state. However, it is surprising to know that his administration has failed to protect its ruling JD(U) MLA Bima Bharati, who was reportedly beaten up mercilessly by her husband Awadhesh Mandal at their village home at Bihta in Purnia district.
A notorious gangster, Mandal is also a member of Purnia Zila Parishad. Mandal along with his driver have been arrested and were charged for brutally beating the three time MLA. The incident has left a blot on the state administration and the government.
As the incident surfaced, an elderly member from the village said that when the MLA herself is not safe in her house, how can others expect safety. She further added that they had voted for Nitish but criminals like Mandal still rule the roost which has made their lives miserable.
'After more than six decades of independence, women are still puppets in the hand of males, Bihar badly needs women empowerment programmes,' said member of an NGO, working with MLA Bima Bharati.

'She was quivering and sounded a bit incoherent on the phone,' the SP said.
Police said that after reaching the MLAs house, they found her almost unconscious on the bed and had received multiple injuries including fractures on arm and legs. With the help of villagers police immediately took her to referral hospital from where she was shifted to the Sadar Hospital at the district HQ.
The villagers also informed that the MLA is always physically and mentally tormented by her husband. It is still to confirm that what led to the ugly incident of violence against the victim.
