India's Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid and his United Kingdom counterpart Ken Clarke met in New Delhi today to 'further strengthen the co-operation' between the two countries in the field of law. Potential reforms to the legal sector were among the points discussed between the two Ministers who earlier inaugurated a seminar on ‘UK-India Co-operation on Emerging Legal Sector Issues.’ Mr Clarke was accompanied by a high level delegation. It included UK Justice Ministry Permanent Secretary Suma Chakrabarty, Kathryn Laing, special advisor to the UK Minister; England and Wales Law Society President John Wooton; Khawar Qureshi of UK Bar Council; and UK High Commissioner Richard Stagg. For the Indian side Law Secretary D R Meena; Legislative Department Secretary V K Bhasin; Justice Secretary Neela Gangadharan and Bar Council of India Chairman Ashok Parija were present. |
