Jago Grahak Jago - the high pitched highly expensive Ads by the ministry of consumer affairs in collaboration with the highly paid Delhi University staff tries hard to make us aware that as a consumer one may negotiate the price below MRP printed on a packed commodity. It also tells us that the reatiler is duty bound to keep a weighing machine in case a customer so demand to chechk the quantity in a sealed packet. And it boldly announces that Govt has nothing to do with the MRP printed on the packet as it is decided solely by the manufacturers. We already know that we have India which lives in Ivory towers and the rest lives on Rs 20 per day in Bharat. For those live in Ivory towers MRP is not applicable to them. How ? MRP by the order of our Supreme court of NRI sorry India is inapplicable at posh hotels, restaurants, Airports , resorts and private clubs. It is shown scant regards even in poorman's travelling mode, DIDI's Rail. Jago Grahak Jago is totaly silent on the issue . The professors in Delhi University who the brain behind those campaigns are either ignorant or keeping quiet for a cause.
MRP act also stipulates that cost of manufacturing be displayed along side the MRP on the packet of a product. Why the JAGO GRAHAK JAGO is silent on this very important issue? This will revelutionise the consumer protection movement in India as MRP is most abused by the manufacturers in collusion with whole sellers / Retailers lobby. Take the examples of a product from Reebock. MRPs are kept sky high. And they are sold at reduced rates which is much more than the cost of manufacturing. If cost of manufacturing is displayed on a product it will immensely help the consumers in India.
