Today I was engaged by father of a poor accused against whom there was warrant for non appearence. The M.M. imposed a fine of Rs.200/- per head against cancellation of Warrants. I pleaded "Your lordship may kindly reduce the fine. "300/-" he said. 'Sir" I said.." 400/-" he said.
The naib court standing next to me smiled wryly.
I have been waitng in court since 11.30 am . I was 10 minutes late so I agreed to take the punishment for the client.
The naib court presented the file at 3.30 Pm.
Many accused appeared alone and fined Rs.100/-
Alone means trhrough naib courts of court staff.
My question is: is the M.M's conduct o.k.?
I am not jumping to any conclusions.
