Income tax on maintenance money for child

Hi,

My husband and me were divorced 10 years ago and we have a daughter out of the wedlock. He went abroad and these 10 yrs he did not give a single penny. Now, after 10 years, he suddenly wants to pay my daughter's fees. I am a working woman single mother and i earn fairly well. He only sends a round figure for her fees, which I do not use for myself but for her fees only. Is that money taxable? do i have to pay income tax on it?

@ Ramesh Singh. Thank you for your reply. It is more than 50k. NOw she will be going to college. So its around 2.5 lac p.a. So, is 50k exempted and then tax on 2 lac? and it will be my taxable income+2lac.

Another option... if i open a kids account (as she is a minor) and let the maintenance money be deposited in her account... is this a good option?

and yes... Even I am trying to find who the zombie is?  :D
