in the ordinary course you can talk to bank officials stating the bank details and asking about mortgage and whether it has been discharged or not, alternatively you can file an application under RTI seeking information of mortgage of title deeds / property documents. if the mortgage has been discharged you can claim back the property papers from bank stating that you are the legal heir.
