Malicious prosecution vs. civil defamation

I missed the limitation period on Civil Defamation.  A false case has been filed on me. I expect it to be ruled in my favor. I know that the limitation period for malicious prosecution starts after the case is dismissed or I am acquitted.  I want to know if the damages for malicious prosecution can include the losses suffered as a result of defamation?

So, there can be no defense by the defendants that civil losses as a result of defamation should have been brought separately in a suit for defamation and not under Malicious Prosecution. Right?
