Medical negligence

 

(D) Medical negligence - Patient suffering from Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) - Administering of steroid (Depomedrol) of 80 mg twice daily - Long acting steroids in a heavy dose without foreseeing its implications is an act of negligence - After heavy damage Depomedrol was stopped but fuel was added to fire by prescribing another quick acting steroid in a heavy dose without keeping in mind that huge amount of earlier steroid had already accumulated in the body - Further aggressive supportive therapy that is considered rudimentary was not provided - Vital signs of patient such as temparature, urine output, pulse, blood pressure were not monitored - No measures were take to prevent further spreading of infection - Held both the Doctors in charge and hospital were negligent. (Paras 183, 184, 186, 187, 189)
