Surname change in passport

Hi

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this query. My wife has a child from her first marriage and currently we want to change the surname/father's name in his passport. He is 5 years old now. My wife is the legal guardian for the child. I would like to know if we can change the father's name in the passport and what is the process to do so and the documents we will have to submit for this?

Thanks in advance.

Praveen

respected querist,

changing the name of natural father from the passport is very crook law procedure /we cant say there is any procedure but we can do this by taking help of various laws. first of all if you have to be his father legally that means you have to adopt that child legally so that he can become legally entitled for your name and for your succession.after this a declaratory suit have to filed for the declaration of fathers name but the dangerous point will remain that here we are not seeking for the correction of name but we are changing the person.

Dear Members,

I had checked about this with the passport office now and they are also asking me to legally adopt the child first as advised by Mr.Anish. Can you please suggest how can I adopt my step son now? Thanks for your response.

My practial advise to you is pl do not adopt the child....for adoptiion is irrevocable...in case of divorce with present spouse by any chance [God does not bring that situastion]...you cannot revoke the adoptiion...

but do not forget to give your love as a father to the child....

do not change the name your wife can give her decree of divorce in the passport office....

when the child grows up becomes matured,,,,you can take him into confidence...and make him undersrtand for not changinvg the name...

but pl do give the child love of father I am sure you will do that since i have observed in my 13 yrs of practice that men have

easily accepted the wife's earlier children but women do not
