WELL DONE INFORMATION COMMISSIONER SHAILESH GANDHI
Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi has done a smart job in directing Delhi Government and NDMC to put on their websites various information relating to forthcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 with effective utilisation of section 4 of RTI Act. Rather Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the nodal government-functionary to handle RTI Act, should come out with an instructive circular for all public-authorities to put maximum possible information on their websites which are queried most in RTI petitions. Ideally speaking, RTI Act can be termed successful when filing of RTI petitions may be minimised to best possible with petitioners finding the sought information on websites of public-authorities. Step will effectively check corruption and other malpractices presently deep-rooted in our system.
Central and state governments along with their undertakings spend too much on photo-publicity of political rulers through costly media advertisements. Space presently misused in government-advertisements for photos of living personalities, may be effectively utilised for educating people about new information put on websites by these public-authorities under section 4 of RTI Act.
