Can someone explain what are writs in civil and criminal ??

Writ means a warrant from the court to govt. authorities to  do their duty and report to  the courts.There are 5 types of writs. Habeas carpus, 2. Mandamous, 3.Prohibition, 4. Certiorari, . Quo Warranto.

So, writs are issued when governmental, quasi-governmental, judicial or quasi-judicial bodies are not performing their duties.
