Name corrrection on death certificate

Guest (Querist) 04 September 2011 This query is : Resolved
Hi..

I My Mum Mrs Sunitha Poti Passed away in United Kingdom last year and all her bank details in India are Under the Name Santha Gopinath Poti..
As per her UK death certificate its Sunitha Poti (Husband's Name: Gopinath Poti).
Is there anyway we could do an affidavit or any other document in India for this correction..
Please suggest....

Apart from the Death Certificate, her passport details will be helpful. The bank will accept. Further you will also be giving necessary indemnity bond to the bank. There should not be any problem in realing the money lying in the bank.

I am sorry, I did not notice the name difference between Sunitha and Santha.
You have to get the correction in the Death Certificate. One wonders how could such a difference in the name could occur?

correction in the Death Certificate.??where from??? it was issued in UK?? and how to go with?? will you please Mr.Ramachandran through some more light,i too want to be enlightened in this regard.

Yes. If the death of Mrs. Sunita Poti had taken place, the certificate cannot be issued in the name of Santha Poti. This mistake might have happened either that someone had given a wrong name while admitting the person in the hospital, or while filling up the form for grant of death certificate. If that be so, then the correction has to be applied for and obtained only at UK by bringing all the relevant facts and situations to the authorities. It may be a difficult task, but there is no other go. Otherwise there is no way to assume / presume that both "Santha Poti" and "Sunita Poti" are one and the same person!

Thank you ! was thinking so but to admit frankly was not very confident.

The mistake in registration was not on the part of the registering authority of UK, as whatever was reported by the person who registered the death was only the responsible person for such mistake. Banks are not likely to recognize the death certificate with such a vast difference in name (sunitha and Santha) unless necessary correction is got afforded from the issuing authority with proper evidence.

It seems from the summary presented by querist, the name is UK in death certificate was not a result of any mistake on the part of officials concerned rather the deceased was living there in the changed name so the plea of Ramachandran shall not work.

It is better to provide an indemnity bond to the bank along-with an affidavit specifying all the happenings and get the work done.

I agree with the views expressed by Mr. Raj Kumar Makkad.
