The anticipatory bail application of judicial magistrate Inder Singh Malaviya, accused of demanding dowry and beating up his would-be wife in an inebriated condition was dismissed by a local court.
First Additional Sessions Judge, P K Vyas observed that Malaviya was holding a constitutional post and it was his responsibility to punish the accused and help in stopping crime.
"And if a complaint for demanding dowry and beating up his bride-to-be in a drunken condition was filed, it has to be considered as a serious offence," Vyas said dismissing the bail plea.
On December 1, the Shahdol magistrate had, under the influence of liquor demanded a car and Rs one lakh cash from the family of Monica Solanki, whom he was to wed. When they refused to give into his demands, Malaviya beat her and even threatened to take her away forcibly.
