amount given in cheque on demand after engagement is dowry

Not every amount gifted to boy during engegement or after the marraiage amounts to dowry if the same is made with free consent and there is no give and demanded by the bride groom side

But there is possibility of involvment of the boy because the trnsaction is made by cheque and may be used against him if relationship get sour

Now the question arises why he has given the money only during the engagement cannot be ignored as this is highly relevant.
