can I do my side business being a govt civil servant

if I am a state govt civil servant,can I run my own school,hostel ? if the source of income is legal,is there any rule that prohibit civil servant to earn money form other sources?

As a civil servant you should have a contract of employment. This will explain whether you are able to or not.

No, you cannot. Service Rules do not allow any such activity.

Yes, you can start any such occupation in the name of your spouse / parent / relative but not in your own name.

as a govt civil servent ,u r appointed by or under the authority of govt .so can't carried out any side business or hold any profitable post in other organizations.As Dr vashisth said u can open school or hostel in name of other family members
