From April 2012 cheques validity has beenreduced to 3 monthsfrom 6 months  for the following reason.If you appreciate this answer please give me a like on my proifile.

It could be because the people exploit the banking system for their own gains. It has been observed that cheques had been circulated in lieu of cash for six months ( Please note that the cheques had a validity of six months). That is the primary reason for reducing the cheque validity now to three months.

As per RBI guidelines, with effect from April 1, 2012, the validity period of Cheques, Demand Drafts, Pay Orders and Banker's Cheques will be reduced from 6 monthsto 3 months, from the date of issue of the instrument.
