Consumer Forum

The President of a District Consumer Forum invariably uses the term COURT,viz.

"You have to assist the COURT."

"You are standing in COURT."

" This is no the COURT language."

" Order pronounced in open COURT."

He expects that he be addressed and treated as the JUDGE SAHIB.

Kindly suggest the manner in which he can be told that it is a forum and not the court; and he is the president and not the judge.

At Dist. level it is a Forum. However, all consumer forums can exercise jurisdiction and power of the Civil Court and it can be called a Civil Court. The President may or may not be a judicial person, but one judicial officer of the rank of a judge is a must. Cases of consumer complaints from a variety of social, business, commercial and other activities are coming to the Forum and hence one expert from such field is kept as one of the non-judicial officer. Experienced judges are appointed to run and conduct cases in the Consumer Forums and if that the case, the person is right in expecting such words from the complainants and advocates.

Mr.Vijay Kumar, if you want an Order in your favour, you may address the Presiding Officer(s) as Your Honour / My Lord / Hon'ble Bench... and if you want an Order in opponent's favour, then you may address as you like! (just a joke).
