Breaking News! The sensational Arushi murder probe took a dramatic turn, as former National Commission for Women (NCW) member Nirmala Venkitesh has alleged that Chairperson Girija Vyas had hampered the probe.

According to Nirmala Venkitesh, when the NCW team visited the site, they suspected some foul play and mysterious activities. However, they could not proceed with the investigation, as they stopped by Girija Vyas.

Meanwhile, Girija Vyas has denied these allegations, saying she always wanted justice for Aarushi and never tried to influence or stop the probe.

Hours after Headlines Today broke the story that National Commission for Women allegedly stopped the investigation into the Aarushi Talwar double murder case, it tried to find answers to some pertinent questions - Did commission chairperson Girija Vyas try to scuttle the probe? Or why were repeated calls made to the NCW members, who had started the investigation and found some evidence.

When Headlines Today confronted Vyas, she parried the allegations as baseless, saying she is "committed to her work and women's cause".

"Why will I order committee members to stop the probe," she said. However, earlier Vyas had admitted that she did make phone calls to her members but insisted that this should not have forced them to stop the probe.

Former NCW member Nirmala Venkatesh, who exposed Vyas' role in allegedly scuttling the women's body's probe into Aarushi and Hemraj's murders, said even as she along with Sweety Sood, another NCW member, protested why they should come back from the site as ordered by Vyas 'five times over phone', the NCW chief remained unfazed.

While Poornima Advani, former chairperson NCW, said Vyas needs to do some explaining why she made those calls, Editor-Investigation Harinder Baweja  was curt: "she, in fact, shut the case".

While the experts believed that there further probe needs to be done into the NCW chief's role, there was a common refrain: Political influence in NCW probes must end. The experts were also of the view that the commission must have qualified and legally knowledgeable people.

New Delhi: A former member of National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday alleged that Chairperson Girija Vyas "hampered" the probe into the sensational Aarushi murder case, a claim denied by the latter.

Nirmala Venkitesh, the former member, alleged that Vyas "hampered the investigation of Aarushi murder case".

"By circumstantial evidences, we found that there was some foul play. No action has been taken...we would have helped police in many ways," she claimed.

NCW Legal Advisor Sweety Sood said her duty was to prepare the report and give it to Venkitesh. "Venkitesh was to forward it to Vyas and whether she had done that or not, I don't know."

Vyas denied the allegations, saying "why should I stop? Can anybody believe that Girija Vyas can stop this?" She said there should be an inquiry into the Aarushi case.

She also said she had called several meetings on several issues but one could not allege that she convened these meetings to "hamper" the NCW probe into Aarushi case.

Vyas also asked why the member did not raise the issue then "if their conscience was clear".

"They should have written in the report that somebody has stopped them and that's why they stopped," Vyas said.

a powerful lobby disturbing the case intentionally.

it is to be exposed, that, whom they want to save?

Avnish Kaur (Consultant)     26 January 2011

it cannot be exposed now, they have destroyed all evidence.

Arup (UNEMPLOYED)     26 January 2011

but circumstantial evidences are very strong and conclusive.

why cbi trying to left the case? what is the strategy behind it?

are they highly pressurized and like to left the case?

or they like to expose the political pressure on the matter.
