Delhi Metro all set to cross the Delhi border and enter Noida

The ceremonial launch of the much-awaited Noida corridor connecting Delhi with the National Capital Region (NCR) will take place on Thursday at the Akshardham station in east Delhi.

From Friday, residents of Noida and adjoining areas can look forward to reach the city in about 30 minutes in AC comfort as the first Metro train will begin operations between Delhi and the satellite town.

This is the first time a Metro train will formally cross the Delhi border and enter Noida.

Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Diksh*t will flag off the first train from the station. Hours later, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will launch the first train from Noida.

The line will be open to public from 6 am onwards on Friday which is expected to bring a paradigm shift in the travelling habits of thousands of people in the NCR.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety on Wednesday gave the nod for commissioning of the 13.1-km Yamuna Bank-Noida City Centre (Sector-32) line.

"R K Kardam, Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety, inspected the Yamuna Bank-Noida section on November 10 and 11 and has certified the section as fit for public carriage of passengers," DMRC Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal said in a release.
