So long people do not understand the basic truth and facts, and keep harping and hitting around the bush, there is no solution. The basic truth and fact is that people are sovereign and no sovereign can rule without arms. There are no "if"s and "but"s to this fact. The day sovereign disarms itself, it becomes subservient to the powers that have arms. This is the reason for 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution. This fact is the heart and soul of democracy, freedom and liberty.
Guns are great equalizers for the oppressed, then why would the oppressor want to nullify his/her advantage. The fact is Governments rule by the power of the gun, yes even in a democracy and more so in a hollowed out and corrupted democracy like ours. Behind almost every rule of law there is gun to enforce it. That is the gist and fact. Think. “Power flows from the barrel of the gun”, and it is not just in a Maoist country but everywhere. Do the corrupted Governments want their poor and hungry to have this power? Can the corrupted Governments afford to have their deprived, hungry, bonafide citizens to have this equalizer? This is why the 2nd Amendment was done in the US Constituion. Is this difficult to understand? Is it difficult to understand if the State has more power than the power of people, what will happen? That is exactly happening now.
Consider this quote by James A. Donald, “The usual road to slavery is that they take away your guns, then they take away your property, then last of all they tell you to shut up and say you are enjoying it”. I sincerely hope this is not true, I truly hope we never face such a situation. But if we find out that we are indeed being forced by the Governments to follow the steps as quoted by James A. Donald then we don't have any other choice but to arm ourselves by any and every means and resist to the dying breath.
Probably we are already in a situtation as quoted by James A. Donald. Consider these facts in light of quote of James A. Donald: Arms were explicitly guaranteed in the draft Constitution but the explicit guarantee of arms as fundamental right was removed from final Constitution. Why? Then exactly as mentioned by James A. Donald, after few years the explicit guarantee of property as fundamental right was removed from the list of constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights of the citizens of India. Why? At present those in power are simply saying to the citizens to shut up and say they are enjoying. Why? Do we need to be reminded of James A. Donald's warning?
In today's context, the most important factors that determine the electoral victory in India are the power of money, muscle and caste, community, language, region, religious affiliations. Did any electoral candidate, anywhere in India had won or lost an election questioning, why the explicit guarantee of arms or property was removed? Whom to blame? The people or those whom we elect?
I illustrate the truth, qoute an experience of one family of freedom fighters, who had to cross over from Pakistan. "a bit of family history - my Grandfather's guns were not taken away by the Brits, even when his oldest son (my uncle - Tauji) was arrested, tried and convicted for sedition (i.e. fighting for freedom), terrorist acts (looting a army pay truck), and fortunately killing a army employee on duty (the guard of the said pay truck) was not proved, hence he escaped being hanged! These guns were finally confiscated by the Indian govt, when he was crossing the border post Partition. The Pakistani govt let him walk (or sail rather) out with his guns, the Indian govt stopped him, hence losing our family heirlooms!!!"
