Getting marriage certificate

Dear All,

I am a 28 Years old and married with a catholic girl in May, 2013. we get married in church (We have a church Marriage Certificate, but i guess those documents are not legal).

After 2 Months (July 2013), I got some major project in Southeast asia, have to leave India for almost a year.

Now, we want to get a legal Marriage Certificate for Dependent Visa (for my wife).

please help us to understand the below points -

1. procedure of "Special marriage act"

2. I personally consulted couple of local lawyers, and it seems they are not in favour of special marriage act, and they are trying to convey my wife to get converted into Hindu (by some vedic marriage ceremony). I feel bad about it. and we are not comfortable with converting our religions. we want and we will follow our religions.

please help me to find out a lawyer who can advise/help us to get a legel marriage certificate in mumbai.

Thank you

Regards

Vikash Kumar

The marriage registration certificate can be received from the office of Registrar of Marriage in whose jurisdiction the marriage took place.
Certain forms and formalities need to be completed as per procedure, it would be issued on payment of required fees.

Do not be misguided by local lawyer's unacceptable advise.  You do not have to convert or your wife need to convert herself.  You can get your marriage registered under the provisions of  Special marriages act itself. The procedures to be followed in this regard can be found dangling on the wall or pasted in the notice board outside the office of sub-registrar of your local jurisdiction.  You may comply with the requirements, you do not require a lawyer to assist you in this connection. For further details you can follow the advise rendered by Adv. Majeed above.
