 DP means Dowry Prohibition Act. Under Sec 3& 4 of the Act, asking for dowry as well as accepting dowry is illegal and the same is punishable.D.V means domestic violence Act.No, no warrant will be issued initially. You will get summon from Magistrate.

There was no demand of dowry.

Is for custom like getting money for clothes considered as dowry paid by cheque/DD?

                                  YES  IT CAN BE CONSIDERED AS DOWRY AND IF THERE IS A COMPLAINT U/S 498A  AND U/S 406 AND 409 THEN THESE ARTICLES SHALL BE EQUALENT TO DOWRY AND THE COMPLAINANT CAN CLAIM IN THE COURT FOR THE RETURN OF THESE ARTICLES

Dowry Prohibition Act is a special act of which section3,4 provides definition and punishment thereof and giving or taking dowry both are punishable offence.Whereas sec 498a is defined in ipc which is relating to cruelty of any kind to wife be it physical or mental.Both this sections are interrelated AND generally there is demand of dowry and cruelty hence police machinary registers offence under both the sections.
