ANY BODY CAN CHANGE OR RETAIN ANY NAME AS PER LAW-- NO HARM IN IT.

Dear Khushboo

There is neither social or legal implications if you keep your maiden surname. As Mr. Arun and Mr. Arup have already pointed out there is nothing wrong keeping your maiden name. In fact we have to educate the schools, and other institutions of society if they are surprised on two different surnames of the couple, that there is nothing wrong in doing so and finally it remains an individual woman's choice. You need not follow the examples of Indira Gandhi, Sonial Gandhi, Hillary Clinton etc. Listen to yourself, what do you really want and do things accordingly.  In Urban areas of TamilNadu,  you see quite a few women keeping their maiden surname with a great sense of togetherness with their husbands and children are just as happy as any other child with the parents using the same surnames.

So go ahead, and if you wish keep your maiden surname. You are safe socially as well as legally!
