Is grand child born abroad a pio?

I am resident in India. My son is NRI having Indian passport. My grand-daughter is born abroad having U.S. passport. Is my grand-daughter legally a “Person of Indian Origin” or a foreign national of non-Indian origin? Any formalities should be complied with Indian Embassy or Govt. of India?

I am requesting your advice as I wish to gift my flat to my minor grand-daughter. Eventually when she will sell upon my death, she should not feel that her grandpa created headache for her. Please advice.

Query is already replied to. She has to apply to indian embassy or consulate office through proper channel for oci i.e. overseas citizen of india if she is a minor. Pio and oci is same these days.

But that is optional. You can nevertheless transfer property to her even without oci status. Propert should not be on agricultural land or plantation property.
