The 11 months rental agreement even if it is unregistered, will be sufficient to prove the landlord - tenant relationship

Advocate Bhartesh goyal (advocate)     02 September 2023

The 11 month rent agreement  does not require compulsory registration but deficient stamp duty has to be paid for it's  consideration in evidence.

I concur with the opinion and advise of experts Mr. T Kalaiselvan and Mr. Bhartesh Goyal.

Rent agreement less than 1 year may or may not be registered for collateral purposes such as establishing tenant-landlord relation, period and rate of rent etc.

However, for all other purposes i.e., to exhibit such agreement for evidence deficient stamp duty has to be paid.
