Laws regarding prostitution in india

Dear Sir,

I saw in the bollywood movie Masaan (2015), that a couple of LEGAL age ( girlfriend/boyfriend) were having CONSENSUAL s*x in a hotel. They pretended to be husband and wife at the reception of the hotel and get the room for themselves. The girl was certainly not a prostitute.

The police raided their room, arrested the girl, boy attempted suicide out of fear of police and later died.

My question is on what basis is the police raided the hotel ?

Even if they had doubt of prostitution being practised, they could have enquired and on finding out the truth they should have let go the couple as there was'nt any prostitution being carried out.

Use this forum guidance with discretion and do not misuse the forum's service for miscellaneous movie queries. There are several things involved in such incidents and the entire movie states about the fear of Police complaints and harassment in a holy city against less mortals. The movie highlights moral/prestige value given in higher castes, even when they are living hand to mouth. There are several things that movie teaches and you are raising a silly point. The movie states as to how in a moment of weakness and temptation, youth are ruining their lives and after learning, how they bounce back without depression, and as to how such silly mistakes young persons commit torture their parents.
