no. they will not be treated as husband - wife automatically. they have to marry for this recogonisation.

It depends on the various aspects as, in case of criminal case under 498 A IPC- Sc held recently on 23 April 2009 Koppisetti Subbharao @ Subramaniam Versus State of A.P., "that complainant need not to be legally weded wife". But in the matter of 125 Cr.P.C SC held valid marriage is necessary. In one property matter SC held "If two person are living together since a long time, there is a presumption of marriage between them but it is rebuttable"
You should advice them to marry as required by law and moral.
