Can the court force the husband to pay lumpsum alimony instead of monthly maintenance when awarding decree of divorce?
Monthly maintenance will stop if the wife remarries, but alimony won't be refundable. so how does law address this issue?

The lump sum arrangement is between the parties, the court cannot influence or force anyone to a lump sum settlement, however it can record the same in the judgement. You have been wrongly guided by somebody. If the court is making such order, you can prefer an appeal against such decision.

Gautam,
As you correctly put your point about alimony stopping once she re-marries..do you not think that the other party would know this fact also. At what stage is your case currently? And is your so-called wife working as well? How old are you guys?
