In pre marriage, the court perfrom the marrige and takes one month time and post marriage, court provide u only certificate that u have alreday marred and within one or two days.

Pre Marriage Registration: - You (intended couple) have to make an application before the Registrar of Marriage for getting married to each other. There is one month notice for this purpose.
Post Marriage Registration: - Your marriage with each other will be registered by the Registrar of Marriage and only a Certificate to this effect will be issued to You. It can be done with in two days. There are separate forums for both the purposes under the Hindu marriage Act, Special Marriage Act.

Procedure for --
Pre Marriage Registration is governed by Special Marriage Act.
Post Marriage Registration is governed by local marriage statute of your State or region. e.g. in maharashtra,Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, (Mah. Act No. XX of 1999).

satyaprakash stated very clear., Under special marriage act there must be one month notice period then after registrar give the certificate in case of non received any objection. and under Hindu marriage act there is no pre marriage registration. there is necessary to give documents like school leaving, marriage invitation card, and identity proof of priest. as well signature of two witnesses.
