Nullification of offer letter

I'm confident this is the best place to post this query. I just completed my BCA degree from an institution at Bangalore. As part of the campus recruitment drive, we had to attend interviews from different companies. Unfortunately for me i got selected in a company called " Directi " situated at Koramangala. They made me go through a selection process. Then they gave me an offer letter on Sept. 28th 2012, with the joining date being June 1st 2013. It was a done deal. But late in January they called all the newly hired campus recruits. Just to tell us that the offer letter given to us was no more valid. Their company is still functioning but they can cant accept us because of some reason. One of the problems I had with that was, I had passed up or not attended interviews from other companies because i had already used up my quota of 2 companies. My college too didnt allow me take up other interviews between Sept to Jan. I hope someone can help me to sort this mess and see if i have any grounds. I would greatly appreciate it.

actually, some more information is required for a better understanding:

  1. Did you accept the offer- gave your acceptance of that offer in writting?
  2. Did they communicate this cancellation in writting?
  3. Exactly what reason they quoted for cancellation ?

Dear Breno,

You are very right, from my last experience on this forum I can avouch to U that Yeah, this is the best place to post this query. I would like to first tell you that as future is uncertain so some times it can be a possibility that company all of sudden has slipped into some financial crisis & in order to curtail its expenses it has put all its new hiring on the hold this hold is not the rejection of the candidate rather it is just a temporary procrastination which has forced the company to take this action, all those students who had applied & got selected with this company must first of all write an application to your TPO ( Training & Placement Officer ) to let you appear for an interview from Sept to Jan as this was not a fault from your end, ask TPO Or TPO should ask company to submit some valid reason to student on their emails along with a carbon copy cc to principal & vice chancellor which you have mentioned on the form Or on CV submitted to company that what was the proper reason for abrogating your selection ( As said by Djain in his post ) & if this step doesn't bring you the desirous result then you must move ahead to Vice Chancellor, Principal Or Chairman of your college in this matter as certain companies are taking these placement drives & student selected through these drives for granted. Let me now make one practical picture very clear to you, in order to have good rating among other colleges mostly colleges are now days compromising with the standards of company's quality despite knowing in first meeting that XYZ company is not having good intentions Or reputation in the local market, as I have worked with one similar type of bogus company called Stellar Edge Sol. located in sector 34 Chd. during my tenure with this company  I use to accompany my senoir to different colleges for industrial training of B-TECH & POLY TECH students & I was shocked to discover that TPOs of many colleges were so unethical that they use to strike a deal with the companies by asking them to make 5% to 10%  hirings on recieved application in placement drive & latter on the grounds of non performance, incompetence, or on incompliance, terminate the services of selected student, or give them some distant postings to deter them to continue their jobs, this scenario is not mainly followed with every company but with few unreputed brands these strategies are now days is prevalent becz rating of colleges mainly counts on the no. of offers students recieves from the companies after that students join or not is not college's head ache, it sounds strange but this is seen practically by me on round table disussion with TPOs. Please have a look on below given links to have better idea.

So did you see those links

This is the present scenario of todays corporate & education sector, you must post your experience about DirectI company on the  www.consumercomplaints.in forum & if any of your friend is a victim of any fake organization do let them also know about the fake companies through the above mentioned forum and social networking websites like facebook, orkut, wayns.com, ibibo.com etc. just create some community and invite students on it to share their views & bar such companies from coming to colleges & playing with the career of other students.

If possible forward the above links to college management as well to let them also know that students are not fool who could be easily cod by the ruthless policies of barring you students from applying in other companies for counterfeit reason.

Here I am posting another link to you please go through it carefully, hope this will also give you a better understanding of what I am trying to explain & why it is important for the students to be smart for the matters pertaining to their career growth.

Reply to Djain's questions;

1) Yes  i signed a hard copy of their offer letter.

2) No they did not. They called us to inform its no longer valid, thats all

3)They said the company had not reached their targets for the year. So they planned to cut down their strength and some operations. I fail to see why we had to be targeted before we even joined the company.

Sir Sahil,

I looked at some of the links u provided. Very informative and i learned a lot. But i dont think any of it pertains to my scenario. See my college is not at fault at all. I can vouch for them because i know the people involved in the process very well. And Directi is not a small time fraud company. It is an mnc which has a reported value of more than 350 million dollars. So i feel that this act is very unprofessional and undermining of the value of a student and in my case a fresher by the company. I dont want to trash their company online, i feel its not right. Lets just say, out of my curiosity, i want to find out whether their actions are legally justifiable. That way i can get some peace of mind.

Thanks for replying. Appreciate it.
