Prepayment of bank loan

I have taken home loan of Rs. 2400000/- from HDFC Limited in 2008. Currently there iexist a balance of app Rs. 300000/- .

I want to prepay this balance in one go through an account payee check of same bank wherefrom my monthly installments are coming. When I aproached the bank, they asked me for bank statement of last six months which I do not find justified.

I just want to understand if the HDFC Ltd is right is asking the last six month bank statement. It is a recorded trancsaction through bank accounts thus I could not understand about the appropriateness of the demand.

Requesting the Forum to enlighten me.

Thanks.

Dear querist,

Demand of bank is arbitrary and not has per any guidelines of RBI.

In case bank insist on the same ask for guidelines/rule book for asking same.
