Find out from the Bank whether there is some person nominated by deceased (Grandfather), if so, the Bank shall pay / transfer balance in the account of nominee.

Otherwise, file a suit for succession under Personal Laws of the deceased i.e.,Hindu / Muslim / Indian.Succession Act

From your query, I understand your zGrabd Mother is alive. You may spproach the Bank where the account is maintained and seek their guidance as to how to claim the amount. Please be guided by the Bank Officials duly submitting the documents as called for by them.

Depending on the amount, branch officials are having delegated powers to settle claims for less than Rs.25,000/- with an indemnity bond and a surity.   If it is more than the amount she may have to obtain a succession certificate from a competent court.   But the first step is intimating of ( in writing with ack)  death and providing Banker an original death certificate..  The nomination should have certainly registered as bankers mandate it while opening in general.
