It depends upon the facts and circumstances so as to decide when to apply for anticipatory bail. Normally it is filed after the filing of FIR. However, if you have reasonable apprehension that non bailable offence is going to be registered against you and you can be arrested then, you can apply for AB now.also.

Archana mam statement is right.. its depends upon facts and circumstances.... u can also file anticipatory bail before registering FIR.
