We are exeuting works for Indian Railways and are required to transport input materials to work sites on railway track by Road Cariers and demobilise the site after work execution. Are we required to pay Service Tax as GTA on aforesaid activity as works for Railways are exempt under Service Tax ? Please guide with relevant notifications.

Yes, you are required to get a registration as service receiver for GTA services. Your output service is exempt (being a service to Railway) but the services you are getting is not.
