Taxation of contract labour

Hi everyone.. I am about to employ contract labour for some service.. I have already ensured compliance of all labour laws.. What taxes are applicable when we engage contract labour? Is sales tax applicable? Service Tax? VAT? Please help.. Thanks a lot..
