Can someone kindly inform what is the maximum number of years one can go on deputation/ foreign service? It is told that 7 years is the duration. Is this correct?
Also please tell, if a person has served in the personal staff of a Minister on deputation basis, whether that period will not be counted against the total period an officer can remain on deputation.
If there are DOPT instructions on these, kindly provide its links.

There is no limit to the deputation period as long as your parent department permit you and receiving department willing to accept your deputation period. Your lien will be maintained in your parent department.
The deputation period will count your services even you serve as personal staff of Minister on deputation basis.
