Threat to commit suicide

what can husband do if the wife threatens to give  poison to his young children and herself  if her monetary  exorbitant demands are not met by her husband? shold the husband  report this matter to the local police as a case of serious threat  leading to his mental harassment? should he quit that house and stay elsewhere to save his life from such  continued mental pain and harassment. What other steps can husband take to avoid further harassment.?

Mr.Mahendra, More than legal it is a psychological do or die situation and should be a subject matter of counselling. In my humble considerate view the husband should try to know the reason behind exhorbitant monetary demands of the wife and try to reason out with her failing which should resort to the counselling. Going to the police is not the solution for the reason that it is not husband and wife but an entity known as family which should do all the possible on earth to come out of this momentary predicament. If anything is not possible try to have some cooling period - as time is a great healer. (In the matter of life and deaths no advice can be dead sure as the matter is subjective). Best Regards Daksh

better to file a police complaint other than to face dire consequences.

But Rakhi, dont you think it will worsen the situation? consider the suggestions of Daksh, which is a practical one and very sound in my personal view.No doubt section 306 IPC read with section 113-B of the Evidence Act will make out a case of cruelty and the Supreme Court Judgment on N.G.Dastane vs dastane (1975) 2 SCC 326 exhibited what is mental cruelty, but I would suggest that as of now not for the sake of the party but for the sake of the matrimonial family there should be cooling period and make an attempt to salvage the family through counselling.
