Trading in shares by Govt. official

Whether a Govt. servant can do  intraday trading in share market  as because now my friend (distant relative) had done this and gained an amount of Rs.50,000/- overall.  Whether he can do intraday trading ?  I presume no govt. servant  is allowed to do any business to gain money.  Kindly throw some light on this.

"intraday trading in share market"   does not come under the defination of Business, subject to income generated is self-sustainance.

All income derived in Share Market or in Agricultural Land  or Bank Fixed Deposits or Post Office savings schemes or Bonds or Debentures etc....  are income generating sources,  BUT NOT BUSINESS.

Not fully agreeing with Mr heman Aggarwal.  Share trading doe snot have a blanket ban for Centtrral Govt employees but not unfetted one.  Please refer to Rule 18 of CCS(Conduct) Rules.  On broader side do not take preferential shares, do not take shares of the company with whidch you hav eofficial dealing in last few years. etc.  Please read rule yourself.
