Traditional Dress

Page no : 2

Anil Agrawal (Retired)     25 November 2009

He should discard, oxygen gas mask, helmet, pressurised suit, hand gloves, belt tied to ejection seat, should not carry any fire arms on his person, should not carry his I.D. card and parachute. I wonder why Pratibha Patil, President, discarded her traditional saree while flying a Sukhoi and donned the flying suit and safety gear?

We abound in jokes. Don't we? We go to temples wearing trousers, don't wear sacred thread, don't sport SHIKHA, urinate standing, shave all the 7 days, live a life that we like and suits us irrespective of constrains of religion, tradition, custom and social practice. We watch TV and sleep at 2 a.m., get up at 11, drink cups of tea/coffee without brushing our teeth sitting on the bed. It is a free for all and we pine for DHOTI when girls have discarded Saree and are dressed at home, school/college, office in Jeans and Tee Shirts.

It is good time to have a discussion whether India has a distinct culture of its own. To me, except for RBI currency, railways, post office, telephone, armed forces and passport, India is a nation of as many parts as there are States and even more.
