Validity of undertakings

Many pvt. companies, & even the govt. companies seeks undertakings from their employees that they will not leave the current job or apply to other companies within a stipulated period or only on terms and conditions. What is the validity of such undertakings, are they admissible and can they be challenged? What will be theliabilitiesof contravention of such undertakings

it needs to be seen why the company whether private or PSU have incurred any substantial costs/expenses on training of the employee. if yes, then in order to recover the said expenses company may rightfully ask the employee to reimburse the said expenses if they leave the employment before a certain period.

Thanx, but apart from the clause of expense on training of employee, any other ground is available, specially if the employee has only  limited chances to grow in the company?
