Working voluntarily on Sundays and National Holidays

I work in a public sector organisation. My job involves extensive touring of areas allotted to me. Can I opt voluntarily for tour on Sundays / National holidays, without claiming any extra payment / leave for such work undertaken on Sundays / Holidays? Is there any Act / provision of law that bars an employee opting voluntarily to work on Sundays / holidays? Can an employer accept such a request from employees without atracting any penal action from authorities? I am from the State of Tamil Nadu. Kindly clarify.

As per all the statutes an employee whould be given weekly off for every 6 days of working. At the same time if someone works on weekly off day he has to be given an alternate w/o within 3 days. For holidays if some one works he is eligible to recieve C/O & OT wages.

You can always work on sundays & Holidays. But you cannot work 'voluntarily' and you have to take permission from yoru employer as the employer has to keep a record for giving youalternate w/o or OT or CO as the case may be.
