i noticed Bharat Stage I or Bharat Stage II or Bharat Stage III (BS norms)

these are for pollution standards....the higher the stage, more environment freindly the engine is.

these are at par with Euro Standards.

These all are related to emission norms. In India, now there is only one emission norms i.e. Bharat Stage (BS). They are quite equivalent to Europe's Euro norms. The only difference is the values of various parameters.

Euro norms refer to the permissible emission levels for both petrol and diesel vehicles. The Euro norms require manufacturers to reduce the existing polluting Emission Levels in a more efficient manner by making certain technical changes in their vehicles.
