If any information is taken from Electrol roll

If any information is taken from electrol roll and published it on the website like his name, address , telephone numbers, neighbours, etc. are they violating the electrol copyright? Can they sue them? what about the people whose information has been published? Can they also sue the website?

Matters in public domain are for acess to everyone and it dooes not involve copyright. But it is used for damaging the privileges of any sort, then it will attract the penal provisions .

No.. Electrol roll is in public domain, so you can definitly use the material there. It does not have copyright protection. No one can sue you. If any query, you can mail me at advsnigdha272gmail.com

The Electoral rolls serve a distinct and specific purpose and the survey is carried out by Election commission of india and they are the first copyright holders of the compilation, and unless they specifically make available the electoral list to all or without their consent, using the data is infringement....

Just my own thought....

this is where india need strong data protection act....

also agree with the attraction of penal provision as posted by Mr. Isaac Gabriel for breach of any privilege
