Some cities, like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, and Gurgaon, have regulations that prohibit or restrict modifications to balconies. For example, in Bengaluru, you need pre-approval from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to make changes to balconies. In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) does not recognize balconies under the Development Control Regulations (DCR) 1991.
If you're adding a mezzanine balcony, you should consult with a structural engineer or architect to ensure the supporting structure can bear the additional load.

Local laws govern the subject, it is advisable to seek services of a local lawyer.
