Credit card Unsettled Balance

I have credit card unsettled amount of around Rs.50,000.The credit card was issued in 1998.The last payment I made was on May 2000.I left the country in 2001.After that there was no communication between me & the credit card bank.In 2004 the bank contacted my father and threatened him that I will be arrested when I come back to India.I am out of country now.

If I come back to India, will I be arrested for non-payment?

Credit Card Banks can take action only upon filing the civil suits for recovery of money and they cannot demand amounts from your father.Now there's a strict guidelines of RBI are there and that they cannot intimidate the debtors and threatened them. You can filed the complaint in the Police Station against credit card Banks and you can also go for One Time Settlement for outstanding amount and negotiation.

In addition to the views expressed by learned friends. A part from giving police complaint against the recovery agents of the bank you can file a consumer complaint against the bank (only if you are sure that there was no communication from the bank's end as stated by you in your query)
