Dear Experts: Mr. Kiran Kumar and Mr. charu dureja

Please understand that B.L. is not a correspondence course or academic exercise. It is a Regular Law Degree given in law universities and colleges in Tamilnadu. It is as equivalent as LLB. Bar Council of India has approved it. All law graduates getting law degree awarded in Tamilnadu are awarded only as B.L. and there is no LLB course in tamilnadu law colleges.

Five year law course graduates are awarded the degree as B.A.,B.L., Master's in law are awarded as M.L and not as LLM. Only Annamalai University offers LLM. But the rest of the law colleges and university in tamilnadu offers only B.L and M.L.

B.L. also means Bachelor of Law. So B.L. is not a correspondence course as stated by you all. All lawyers studied law in tamilnadu are awarded only degree as B.L and not as LLB and they are eligible to practice in courts all over India.

Krishna there can be a difference in nomenclature in this respect.

in north India the professional law grads are provided with LL.B degree, like when i started doing Law, J&K university used to provide BL degree through correspondance course and that is nothing but an academic exercise....still few universities are following the same structure.

i was not aware of the difference between Northern and Southern patterns of awarding degree.

thanks for the information otherwise.riven

Dear harsh,

I further make it clear the details of annamalai university. Only the following law programmes are available in annamalai universities:-

L.L.M. (Master of law)
B.A.L.(Bachelor of Academic laws)
B.B.L.(Bachelor of Business Law)
B.G.L. (Bachelor of General Laws)
Diploma in Labour Laws with Administrative Law
Diploma in Law of Taxation
P.G. Diploma in Criminology & Forensic Science

There is no B.L course in annamalai university (neither correspondence or regular).

The courses like B.A.L. B.G.L and B.B.L (above stated) are courses only for obtaining legal knowledge and those who study the same are not eligible or entitled to practice law or become lawyer as per the university rules.

If you have any further querries please ask me.

Clarifications given herein are informative indeed and I would also like to endorse the view that BL is the same as LLB .riven
