Examination of prosecution witness as defence witness

Sir,
Can a person listed in prosecution list as prosecution witness(though not examined by prosecution), be examined by accused as defense witness for making dent in prosecution story? if yes. please provide any case law for reference.

A person leads a witness in chief examination for his side when he speaks for his side, the other party cross examines, the accused always has the right to cross examine prosecution witnesses to shatter their credibility. However if the prosecution witness does not support the case of Prosecution, he is said to turn hostile. After which his testimony can be lead by the defence who may examine him in chief.
