Holidays before/after leave

(Querist) 18 May 2009 This query is : Resolved
Respected Members,

Whether the holidays falling either before or after the period of leave are treated as leave or holiday, either as per law or custom.

you have to see the service rules of concerned department/istitution

It depends on the kind of leave and the rules governing your department. Normally, holidays can be prefixed or suffixed to leave. When the rules allow such a joining, the holidays are not treated as leave.

If it is either casual leave, privilege leave/Earned Leave or sick leave, the holidays either falling earlier or later will not be counted, until the leave application specifically mentions them to be taken as leave. The intermittent holidays will be treated as holidays, if the nature of leave is P.L./E.L or Sick leave or commuted leave, but not in the case of casual leave. But in the case of casual leave, the number of leaves to be taken and the number of occasions to be utilised in a year are prescribed in the leave rules and in most of the cases, the casual leave cannot be carried to next calendar year.
