Working hours

(Querist) 09 April 2013 This query is : Resolved
Hi,
I am a female, working in a car sales showroom chennai as asst.manager (newly joined - in probationary period)
1. What is the maximum working hours per day? ( I work between 9.30a.m - 6.30 pm Mon -sat includes 30 mins break. and few days made to stay longer for an hour or two)
2. What is the minimum break between two shifts? (I am being made to work till 12a.m few days and asked to come back at 9.30am the next day)
3. Is there any law to provide pickup/drop or compensation for travel if I am being made to work till late night)
4. after working between 9.30am and 6.30 pm, I am being made to work in events(car show in hotels or other places) till midnight. is this legal?
5. I am not being paid for the extra hours I work. is this legal?
Note: during appointment, I was not given any specific timing for work. just a job description which had general office works and mentioning I have to do events if required and any other work given by manager).

if you are working in the private sector you dont have fixed working hours . you are paid better but you have to slog harder if you want to move up the corporate ladder . if you are made to work late in night the management should offer you drop facility .

resign from the organisation if you are not happy and made to work till mid night

Does this mean that corporate sectors are not governed. do they not come under any law? Just because they pay more, can make them break the law?(8hr or 9hr maximum working hours. either work by our rules or resign(fired)? is this not how people are exploited?

it is unfair to work till midnight thus even midnight they provided you drop service
in retail outlets such work hours does not count and corporate sector you have a fixed time frame like 45 hours a week a one hour rest and over time extra pay and if female work after 7pm then should provide her proper drop service and in your place being a asst.manager you are struggling right now if you raise this issues it would be problem better to search better prospects
